The Chum Food Shelf will be the recipient of turkeys donated by Leadership Duluth, the region’s premier leadership development program of the Duluth Area Chamber of Commerce. The Thanksgiving turkeys, supplied at cost by SYSCO and organized by the class of 2016, will be delivered to the food shelf Wednesday, November 18 at 8:30 AM.
Each November, the leadership training day revolves around human services offered in our area and includes a visit to the CHUM Food Shelf. During the visit in 2010, the Leadership Duluth class of 2011 became aware of the need for Thanksgiving turkeys to meet the community demand. In the years since, each class has challenged themselves and the classes before them to continue the tradition. This year, 125 turkeys and excess cash donations will be given.
The Leadership Duluth program is designed to identify, orient, develop and network existing and emerging leaders and inspires participants to take an active role in ensuring the health and prosperity in our area. The year long, in-depth program focuses on different aspects of our community to develop a better understanding of how we function as a society and how those coming out of the class can step into leadership roles within our community
